Q. Who do you fund?

A. The Halsall Foundation specialises in supporting organisations helping children and families as well as the elderly, disabled and socially isolated. We will consider any work which has a positive effect on their welfare and quality of life, or which expands the opportunities and life choices for young people in Lancashire. Please note that local branches of national charities which are based within the remit area, or programmes delivered locally by organisations working on a national basis, are not generally supported.

Q. Do you match fund?

A. We don’t ‘match fund’ as such, but we are happy to consider applications which ask us to contribute to a project as one of a number of funders.

Q. If my application is unsuccessful can I apply again?

A. We suggest that unsuccessful applicants wait a year before reapplying – for example, if you were unsuccessful in 2016, we suggest you wait until 2018 to reapply. As with all applications, it’s best to telephone us before submitting a further application so that we can be sure that this is eligible.

Q. How do I apply?

A. First, please ensure that your organisation/project is based within our geographic area of Lancashire and that it is not listed in our exclusions.

Q. Will you come and visit us?

A. Yes, if your application is eligible then we will arrange to come and visit you to talk more about what you do and why you need extra funding. It’s all very informal at this stage but you will need to have facts and figures to hand to help us complete your application.

Q. I don't have audited accounts does this matter?

A. Generally an organisation must have been in existence for a minimum of two years and be able to produce audited accounts for the same.

Q. How will my application be assessed?

A. Once we have assessed whether or not your application is eligible, we will arrange to visit you and feedback from this visit will be given to the Trustees. Trustee meetings are held regularly throughout the year and applications are considered in chronological order.

Q. When are funding decisions made?

A. Trustee meetings are held regularly throughout the year and there are no specific dates for applications to be received. However, organisations should be aware that applications are considered in chronological order and it can take up to six months for the process to be completed.

Q. If I'm unsuccessful will I be told why?

A. Like most charitable foundations we receive many more applications than we can fund, so unfortunately we do have to turn down some projects even if they fall within our eligibility criteria. If you would like more feedback than we give, please write to us and we will do our best to oblige.

Q. What happens after I receive a grant?

A. We are committed to maximising the effectiveness of our funding, so all awards are monitored to assess their success in fulfilling the objectives of The Halsall Foundation to ‘make a difference’.
The methods and requirements of this process will vary depending on the type and purpose of the funding and will be agreed in advance with the recipients. For example, in cases of core or project funding, we would require regular reports and updates and would visit the organisation periodically to maintain contact and ensure we were offering the best form of support.

Grant recipients are encouraged to develop suitable monitoring and reporting procedures in partnership with us, to enable clear results of their work to be demonstrated.

Q. Will my application be acknowledged?

A. All applications will be acknowledged and we will contact you for any further information we require. All charities and projects will be visited before a grant is approved.

Q. I'm not sure how much money we need – can I apply anyway?

A. It’s important that you tell us in your application the full extent of the funding you really need to achieve your aims and objectives in order for us to assess how best we can contribute.

Q. We're out of the region you support – can we apply anyway?

A. Any applications out of the region we support won’t be considered so please check carefully before you apply.
